Follows similar moves by Toyota, Nissan and Honda last week.

Mazda, Fuji Heavy, and Mitsubishi Motors have expanded their airbag recalls by 720,000 cars, reports Reuters. The vehicles being recalled are equipped with faulty airbag inflators that can deploy with excessive force, potentially throwing metal shrapnel at occupants. Mazda said it would recall about 120,000 vehicles in Japan, including the Atenza sedan, Bongo van, and two models it supplies to Nissan and Mitsubishi. Similarly, Fuji Heavy – manufacturer of Subaru-brand vehicles – will recall 91,000 Impreza compact cars in Japan. Mazda and Fuji Heavy have not yet decided whether to issue recalls in overseas markets, but Mitsubishi said it would recall 100,000 units in Japan and 412,000 units overseas.
