Takata to double monthly production of replacement airbag inflators to 1 mil. units
Plans to boost production to 1 million replacement units every month
Takata aims to double its monthly production capacity for replacement airbag inflators by September, reports Jiji Press, citing company sources. The supplier plans to boost production to 1 million replacement units every month, double the existing rate of 500,000 units. A Takata spokesperson said the company was in talks with other suppliers to obtain their co-operation in securing replacement parts. The company also said it had observed a probability of rupture of 0.51–2.16% for its front passenger-side airbags, while the driver-side airbag had a 0.07% chance of rupturing. These figures are based on tests carried out by the company on more than 30,000 recalled airbags. In the tests conducted by Takata, 256 front passenger-side airbags and nine driver-side airbags ruptured.
