US House Energy and Commerce Committee schedules hearing on Takata airbag-related recalls for 2 June
US safety regulators will be determining the root cause of problems linked to at least six deaths
The subcommittee of the US House Energy and Commerce Committee has scheduled a hearing for 2 June on the airbag-related recall issues of Japanese automotive component supplier Takata, reports Reuters news agency. The report suggests that the US safety regulators will be determining the root cause of problems linked to at least six deaths, as well as assess the replacement airbag inflators that are currently being installed by Takata. David Kelly, formerly of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and now charged with leading a consortium of automakers investigating the Takata inflators, said, "It is apparent to us that we have a lot of work in front of us," without elaborating further.
