Aston Martin to decide on new plant location in Q3
Both the United Kingdom and the United States are candidates.
Aston Martin's chief executive officer (CEO), Andy Palmer, has revealed at the Automotive News Europe Congress that the automaker will decide on a new plant location during the third quarter of 2015, saying that both the United Kingdom and the United States were candidates. Palmer added that although Alabama was one US state under consideration, others had also approached the automaker, noting, "We are a relatively small company but there seems to be a great desire to have us building cars in their states or countries." The senior executive said that a new crossover to be built at the new site would help the company "break out of a cycle of feast and famine". He added that by 2021, he intended for Aston Martin to become a sustainable luxury business. Palmer also confirmed that the company had the finance in place to replace its current sports-car range, as well as to build the Lagonda Taraf sedan and the crossover, but that future funding would come from working capital generated by an increase in sales. He said this would mean that "Aston can remain independent and function independently."
