Workers at Renault Truck undertook strike action yesterday (9 June) to protest against a new round of restructuring to be undertaken by the company, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP). Six unions - CFE-CGC, CFDT, FO, CGT, SUD and CTFC - had been set to call out workers at the Saint-Priest (France) and Vénissieux (France) locations. The strike has been timed to coincide with a corporate central committee meeting which would go through the plan.
Significance: The plan to cut jobs by the truck-maker at its French operations follows another recent round of job cuts. Around 591 jobs will be lost, although around 79 positions are set to be created in administrative sales roles. Although French prime minister Manuel Valls has voiced his opposition to the move it remains to be seen what positive impact the government can have on the situation.
