Skoda will increase production of gearboxes at its Vrchlabí plant from 1,500 units to 2,000 units in the first quarter of 2016, according to a CIA news agency report. The plant has been dedicated to production of the Volkswagen (VW) Group's DQ 200 DSG gearbox since 2012 with output from the plant being fitted to Skoda models and other VW Group cars.
Significance: The announcement that Skoda will increase production at its Vrchlabí plant comes after that facility enjoyed a record output of 967,000 gearboxes in 2014 and this rise in output should increase this figure significantly in 2016. The DQ 200 DSG gearbox is the main DSG unit for the VW Group's four-cylinder powertrains and is used in most of the company's mainstream models, with production from the factory being exported to plants in Hungary, India, Mexico, Poland, Russia and Spain among others, although a large proportion of the output also serves Skoda's domestic production facilities.
