Denso is investing USD400 million at its Denso Manufacturing Tennessee (DMTN) site in Maryville, United States to expand production capacity and build a new warehouse, according to a press release. The new warehouse, spread over 186,528-square foot area, will allow DMTN to consolidate its existing warehouse operations into one at the Maryville plant. The warehouse consolidation will enable DMTN to use additional manufacturing space to produce products such as head-up displays and electronic control units (ECUs). The planned investment will result in creation of 500 jobs.
Significance: The new investment is part of Denso’s plans, announced in January 2013, to invest around USD1 billion in North America over a span of next four years. Of this, more than USD750 million will be invested in the United States and add 1,200 jobs.
Denso has made several expansions in the North America including the plans to invest USD53.6 million to expand a facility in Battle Creek, Michigan, United States in March 2015. The expansion is set to add 100 jobs, and allows the company to develop new manufacturing lines for advanced thermal systems, add additional labs for new product testing and validation and expand logistics and packaging operations. The investment in Battle Creek’s facilities follows a company announcement made in January 2015 to inject USD85 million to expand a plant in Athens, Tennessee.
Denso Manufacturing Tennessee produces starters, alternators, instrument clusters and a wide range of electronic components and systems. The Maryville campus consists of four manufacturing plants. According to timesfreepress.com, the company has eight times expanded its Maryville campus.
