Defect in defroster could lead to a vehicle fire, according to several media reports.

Cadillac has announced that it is recalling about 121,000 ATS sedans to repair a defect in the defroster which could lead to a vehicle fire, according to several media reports. The rear-window defroster can overheat because of "weak terminal connectivity in the coil antenna module", according to Cadillac. If the defroster overheats, it can cause a fire in the driver's side rear pillar after continuous use. Cadillac parent group General Motors (GM) says it is aware of four fires related to the defect but no crashes, injuries or deaths.

Significance: To address the Cadillac recall issue, dealers will update the climate-control software to remove the feature that automatically turns on the rear defroster; drivers will then have to turn the system on manually. GM said that vehicles built after 2 September are not affected, but vehicles of the 2013-16 model years are included in the recall.
