Toyota to move Chinese production of Prius to Japan

Plans to focus on production of the Corolla hybrid in China expected later this year.

Toyota is reportedly planning to relocate Chinese production of the Prius hybrid to Japan, according to a Nikkei report. The decision is said to have been taken with a view to improving plant efficiency. The report says that the production shift will occur around December, when the automaker is scheduled to release the next-generation Prius in Japan. Following the relocation, the Japanese automaker plans to focus on production of the Corolla hybrid in China, which is expected to be introduced in the country later this year.
