Malaysian carmaker Proton aims to begin production of a car under its ASEAN car project with a partner or group of partners from China. The company is said to be in talks with Chinese automaker Geely, and Malaysian minister of international trade and industry II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan is quoted as saying in the local press that the firm is talking to "a few automobile companies in China". Speaking in the Philippines, the minister said, "Things are moving positively. They say they need 20 months from now to build a plant and roll out the first car," according to the Philippine Times.
