Ghosn is concerned about some of the initial signals from politicians in the wake of the Volkswagen (VW) emissions situation.

The president of the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) and chairman of the Renault-Nissan alliance, Carlos Ghosn, has written a letter to EU ministers defending the importance of diesel to the European industry, according to a Financial Times (FT) report. Ghosn is concerned about some of the initial signals from politicians in the wake of the Volkswagen (VW) emissions situation. In a letter to the EU ministers responsible for trade, economy, and industry, Ghosn wrote, "All manufacturers have heavily invested in innovation, developing advanced diesel technology which consumes less fuel, thus reducing CO2 [carbon dioxide] emissions, We should avoid measures which could undermine the competitiveness of our sector which accounts for 12.1 million jobs in Europe."
