Volkswagen (VW) confirms vehicles in Brazil, Argentina have diesel "defeat device"
Maintains regional investment plans
Volkswagen (VW) of Brazil has confirmed that 17,057 Amarok pick-up trucks sold in the country have the EA189 2.0-litre diesel engine with the emissions testing 'defeat device' and will recall them next year. Additionally, the president of VW in Brazil, David Pouwels, reportedly said the company's plans to invest BRL10 billion (USD2.5 billion) through 2018 will continue unchanged in the face of the crisis. Reportedly, the investment is planned largely to localise production, including integrating VW up!, Golf, and Jetta production in the country.
