Japanese automaker Nissan has launched its new, locally-assembled Sentra in Egypt, reports Daily News Egypt. "Our decision to assemble the new Sentra in Egypt reflects our expertise in the Egyptian automotive industry, our confidence in the Egyptian market, and our trust in the skills of our workforce", said Nissan Motor Egypt's managing director Isao Sekiguchi, in a statement. It is an upgrade from the previous model. Features such as dual zone automatic temperature control, bluetooth mobile connectivity, smart wooden trims, and push button ignition are fitted as standard. The vehicle is priced from EGP139,900 (USD17,373.4) to EGP149,900. The new price is EGP20,000 less than the imported version.
Significance: Egypt is one of Africa's largest vehicle-producing nations and, despite the political unrest of the past two years, still has significant potential. Some semblance of economic stability is returning in the country, and this is reflected in growing opportunities and sales for vehicle manufacturers. The country is aiming to move beyond assembly of cars and begin full vehicle production. Nissan operates a plant in 6th Of October City in the state of Cairo in Egypt through its local joint-venture partner Seoudi. The local production of the new Sentra consolidates Nissan's position as the number one Japanese investor in Egypt and a major player in the automotive market. It is also one of the biggest employers in the sector, providing jobs to 1,300 people directly, with another 3,000 employees at dealers and suppliers. According to IHS Automotive forecasts, production of the Sentra in Egypt will grow to 4,723 units by the end of 2015 from 2,124 units in 2014.
