Glitch in the power steering that causes it to fail.

BMW has announced a recall of 86,098 Mini Coopers because of a steering glitch, reports Automotive News. An investigation prompted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to recommend the recall. At issue is a glitch in the power steering that causes it to fail and requires the driver to steer it manually. The report notes that BMW is aware of 20 accidents and 5 injuries related to the issue. The recall affects vehicles from the 2002 to 2005 model-years, including the Cooper and the Cooper S, the 2005 Mini Cooper, and Cooper S convertibles.

Significance: BMW will begin sending recall notices in the mail in December 2015; Mini owners can have the cars inspected at the dealership and repaired at no cost.
