Volkswagen (VW) Korea is expected to recall as many as 28,000 units in the country due to a potential airbag defect, reports local publication Yonhap English News. Citing a statement submitted to the South Korean transportation ministry, VW models such as the Golf, Jetta, Passat, and Tiguan, manufactured during 2010–14, are affected. The recall is due to a defective clock spring, which allegedly could break away if the driver applies excessive force to the steering wheel. "The clock spring could touch airbag cables, and if that continues, it could cause the airbags not to function normally", VW Korea was cited as saying in a statement.
