Possible irregularities with blower motor resistor and thermal fuse relating to right hand drive vehicles only.

Around 220,000 second-generation Vauxhall Zafiras are set to be recalled to address the possibility of fires breaking out within the dashboard, reports Autocar. According to the automaker, the issue is said to relate to the Zafira B built between 2005 and 2014, and affects vehicles that are not fitted with automatic climate control. Vauxhall is set to write to all owners of affected vehicles from 12 November requesting owners to visit dealers. The chairman and managing director of Vauxhall, Rory Harvey, has said, "We will check all components and replace any suspect parts free of charge," also adding, "If a part is not available then we will consider the onward mobility requirements of the customer."

Significance: There have been growing concerns over the safety of the Zafira B after pictures of them on fire appeared on social media. General Motors (GM) has been investigating these instances and the latest news suggests that it is related to possible irregularities with the blower motor resistor and the thermal fuse that is designed to protect the system. However, it has also suggested that the problem only occurs when an improper repair has taken place. Nevertheless, while Harvey has said, "If you are the first owner and your system is functioning well, there should be no risk," GM is no doubt keen to get to the bottom of it and ensure the situation does not continue. Earlier reports have indicated that the issue only affected right-hand drive vehicles, and it is not clear whether it includes vehicles sold in other right-hand drive markets such as Ireland or Malta.
