VW halts production of diesel-equipped Passat at Tennessee plant in US
The plant had continued to build diesel models after the EPA announcement that the vehicles were not compliant, though the diesel models produced were not shipped to dealers.
Volkswagen (VW) of America has halted production of Passat models with 2.0-litre diesel engines, according to an Automotive News report. VW has been ramping up the plant in Tennessee, United States, for the 2016 model-year mid-cycle update to the sedan, with gasoline (petrol)-powered cars scheduled to arrive in dealers in early December. "As we are in the middle of the ramp-up of the production volume, it is no problem to adjust the mix to accommodate the change," said VW spokesperson Scott Wilson.
