Ford recalls Fusion, Milan models over fire hazard
Decides against using Takata airbag inflators
Yesterday (23 November), Ford issued a recall notice for nearly 450,000 units of the Fusion and the Mercury Milan models over a potentially faulty fuel tank, reports The Detroit News. Of the total, nearly 411,205 units are in the United States, 33,605 units are in Canada, and 7,055 units are in Mexico. The automaker explained that some vehicles may have an improperly functioning canister purge valve, causing internal pressure changes, and could lead to a crack, leaked fuel, and potential fire if that fuel meets an ignition source. The affected models were manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico from 21 July 2008 through 4 March 2011.
