The ministry of economy and commerce in Qatar, has announced the recall for some Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep models over a defect in their charging systems, according to a report by the Middle East North Africa Financial Network (MENAFN). These vehicles include 2011–14 models of the Charger, Challenger 300c, and Grand Cherokee. The ministry will co-ordinate with the dealership, United Cars Almana Company, to follow up maintenance and repair operations and will communicate with customers to ensure implementation of the procedures to fix defects. The ministry has also urged consumers to report irregularities to the Consumer Protection and Combating Commercial Fraud Department.
Significance: This recall comes as the government of Qatar is working on a framework of co-operation between it and vehicle dealerships as it aims to better protect consumer rights in the region. The ministry is working with local dealerships to establish the extent of their commitment to follow up vehicles in circulation with defects and repair them. The government has recently recalled Chevrolet, Ferrari, Nissan, Range Rover, and Renault models. The number of recalls has been growing in recent years because many automakers have become more proactive in recalling vehicles following a series of industry-wide scandals and because companies use more common components across models. This can result in automakers recalling a relatively large number of vehicles when a problem with a component is found.
