Hyundai, Ashok Leyland resume production in India after floods
Vehicle production temporarily suspended following worst rains in Chennai in more than 100 years.
Ashok Leyland and Hyundai have resumed production at their flood-hit plants in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Ashok Leyland said it started regular operations at its Ennore manufacturing plant yesterday (7 December) but declined to quantify the impact of the natural disaster. "The company will be able to assess the insurance losses in due course, upon assessment done by the insurance company," said the automaker in the statement. Similarly, Hyundai also resumed vehicle production at the plant which was temporarily suspended on 1 December following worst rains in Chennai in more than 100 years. The automaker, India's largest passenger vehicle exporter, did not disclose production loss.
