Luxury carmaker Bentley is investing GBP840 million to expand its UK facilities, according to a report from The Sentinel. The report quotes an unnamed spokesperson from Bentley confirming the company's plans, which will create a further 1,000 jobs in Crewe. The Bentley spokesperson is quoted saying: "The [GBP]840 million investment into our home in Crewe and the surrounding area is the next step in our drive to become even more successful. As we grow, our commitment to Crewe is further strengthened. The improvements to our factory are crucial to enabling us to continue on this path, which has seen us create over 1,000 jobs in the past two years. We are proud of our strong links to the local community and are working with local residents as our plans progress."
Significance: Bentley, which is owned by the Volkswagen (VW) Group, has not issued any statement regarding the expansion plans. The local media report states that the automaker will expand into a field to create a 545-space car park at its Crewe headquarters, that will be used to store finished vehicles following increased production at the plant. Expansion plans are still to be approved by the Cheshire East Council's Southern Planning Committee and have been recommended for approval by members at the upcoming meeting on 6 January 2016. Bentley recently launched production of the new Bentayga .
