Indonesian new vehicle sales drop 16.1% y/y during 2015, with production down despite rise in CBU exports
IHS forecast vehicle output of 1,197,880 units for 2016
New vehicle sales in Indonesia, including passenger cars and light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles, slipped 16.1% year on year (y/y) during full-year 2015 to 1,013,291 units, according to data supplied by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) to IHS Automotive. Of this total, imports of completely built-up (CBU) units came in at 82,306 units, representing a decline of 21.2% y/y. Meanwhile, total vehicle production in Indonesia also fell during the year, by 15.4% y/y to 1,098,780 units. Of this total, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Indonesia exported 207,691 CBU units, up 2.7% y/y, while exports of completely knocked down (CKD) kits edged up just 0.1% y/y to 108,770 units. Exports of automotive components totalled 4,683,519 units, up 11.3% y/y.
