Toyota has announced plans to add another 331,200 vehicles to the list of models being recalled over faulty airbags, reports Reuters. The worldwide recall includes models such as the Avensis, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, and Lexus SC 430, fitted with potentially defective Takata-made dual-stage front passenger airbag inflators. Of the total, Toyota will recall 231,000 vehicles in North America, including 198,000 vehicles in the United States. A total of 86,000 vehicles will be recalled in Europe, 3,000 in Japan, 11,000 in "other" regions, and 220 in Asia.
Significance: Toyota's global recalls over faulty airbags have exceeded the 15.31-million mark, including more than 3.15 million vehicles in the United States. Toyota's last large-scale global recall took place in June 2015 and included nearly 2.86 million vehicles.
