Steps up security at the plant following the attacks

Audi has announced that following yesterday's (22 March) terrorist attacks in Brussels the company has temporarily suspended production at its facility at the plant. According to an Automotive News Europe (ANE) report, the company told 1,100 staff that were due to operate yesterday's late shift to stay at home following the attacks at Brussels airport and a metro station in the city. An Audi spokesperson said that today's shifts were due to take place as normal, although this was subject to change according to police advice.

Significance: Following yesterday's terrorist attacks that struck the Belgian capital it was a sensible and pragmatic decision for Audi to cancel yesterday's late shift at its Brussels production facility. The facility is in the residential area known as Forest which was the location of a shoot-out between police and terrorists based in the district and who were involved in November's Paris attacks. Audi also stated that it has stepped up security at the plant following the attacks and that it expects to make up the lost production of 250 Audi A1 units relatively easily. The Brussels plant will become Audi's electromobility production centre when it begins output of the e-tron Quattro in 2018.
