Observed that lithium is a relatively small contributor to battery mass and manufacturing cost

Researchers at the Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (United States) have found that large increases in lithium prices are unlikely to significantly increase the cost of batteries for end users such as vehicle manufacturers, though some manufacturers may witness a fall in profit margins, says a press release. The study was published in the Journal of Power Sources and shows the analysis of multiple lithium ion battery chemistries and cell formats to observe the effects of lithium price increasing USD25/kg.
