Part of powertrain division's short and medium term focus

The head of Continental's powertrain division has said the unit's medium term focus was on improving emissions controls on both gasoline (petrol) and diesel emissions controls while it is also accelerating the roll-out and development of so-called "e-cats", heatable catalytic converters. In an interview with Automotive News Europe (ANE), powertrain chief Jose Avila said that Continental has the technology to respond to the current scrutiny of emissions testing regimes and the advent of the real driving emissions (RDE) standard in Europe. In the short and medium term the company will concentrate on products that will hone and improve the combustion and efficiency of conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies.
