Vina Mazda Automobile Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO), has issued a recall of 10,100 Mazda 3 cars over an engine warning light issue, according to a report by the Saigon Times Daily. The recall affects 7,740 units of the sedan and 2,360 units of the hatchback version of the Mazda 3 assembled since 9 December 2014 and powered by the 1.5-litre SkyActiv engine. The automaker said that soot was found in the fuel injector, leading to a reduction of fuel into the combustion chamber and causing a warning from the engine control unit (ECU) by turning on the check-engine light.

Significance: Vehicle recalls have been rising in recent years as a result of the increased usage of common components across models, as well as a more proactive approach from automakers following a series of industry-wide scandals. Recently, Toyota recalled 2,400 units of the Camry 2.0E sedan and 133 units of the Lexus ES 250 and ES 350 in Vietnam over separate issues. Regarding the latest recall, Vina Mazda said it will take four-and-a-half hours to check and repair a car, which will be done at no cost at authorised Mazda dealerships throughout the country. The recall will start from 16 June and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
