Over 20 automotive cyber security firms vie for relevancy

Automotive cyber security will become a major challenge for the auto industry and solutions are long overdue. Fortunately, there is a growing list of companies offering perimeter security, operational security, and IT center/support services.

Cyber security in the connected car age is still in its nascent stage. Most controller area networks in the car weren’t designed with security in mind and many act as broadcast mediums making them very vulnerable to attack. The vulnerabilities are understandable, in the past the car was mostly a closed system and security measures were hard to justify in terms of cost and development effort.
