Expanding production of alternative energy vehicles

South Korea is the fifth largest automotive manufacturer in the world after China, the United States, Japan and Germany. In 2015, the country manufactured more than 4.5 million passenger vehicles. Historically, South Korea's automotive industry was heavily protected by the government through ever-changing non-trade barriers and it had one of the lowest levels of import penetration among developed countries for a long time.
