Apple has not entirely given up on building its own car though

Apple has laid off "dozens" of employees working on its self-driving car project, reports the New York Times. Apple is retrenching its autonomous vehicle programme and has shuttered parts of it, according to the report, citing three unnamed sources not allowed to talk about the matter publicly. Recent management changes to the programme include the current head, Bob Mansfield, and shifting from an emphasis on building and producing a vehicle to building out underlying technology for an autonomous vehicle, the report states.
