US automaker is requesting delay for about 980,000 pick-ups and SUVs on the GMT900 platform, built for the 2007 and 2012 model years

General Motors (GM) has requested approval from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to delay its planned recall of certain Takata airbags for another year, according to a Reuters report. At issue are the potentially defective ammonium nitrate airbag inflators set to be declared defective by Takata on 31 December, at which point the recall process will begin.
