Toyota to launch highway assist in 2020, urban assist to follow – report

Japanese automaker aims to move through the various levels of technology, rather than going straight to Level 4 or Level 5 technology

Seigo Kuzumaki, Toyota's assistant chief safety technology officer, recently told Automotive News that the company plans to launch a system that meets the Level 3 autonomous technology level in 2020. The system, Kuzumaki reportedly told the news outlet, is currently called Highway Teammate and will be able to accelerate, brake and steer itself for stretches on the highway.
