VW brand head sees 2020 as tipping point for EVs

Imperative that VW ramps up its activities in this area.

The head of the Volkswagen (VW) brand has said it will take between three or four years for the VW passenger car brand to repair the reputational damage it has incurred as a result of the diesel emissions affair, according to an Autocar interview with the executive. The company recently launched its ID electric vehicle (EV) concept at the Paris Motor Show, which the company aims to put into production by 2020. It is no coincidence that this launch date coincides with Herbert Diess's timescale, although some observers were critical of the lack of detail that went with the unveiling of the ID. However, Diess believes that by 2020 the VW brand will have started its recovery process and that the ID will merely be a building block that is part of the overall strategy.
