Mercedes-Benz announces further details of new modular engine range

Still massive capital investment going into conventional engine technology.

Mercedes-Benz has given out more details of its new modular range of petrol and diesel powertrains that was launched last year with the replacement to the ubiquitous OM 651 diesel engine, the OM 654, which will become the most common powertrain in the model's range over the next few years. According to a company press release the OM 654 will have numerous new modular and petrol and diesel units rolled out alongside it over the next few years.
