GM ends semiconductor production at Indiana plant, lays off 120 − reports
Semiconductor business is not core to GM's operations, says automaker
General Motors (GM) plans to end production of semiconductors at its plant in Kokomo, Indiana, United States, by mid-2017, the company has announced. The move will also mean the company will lay off about 100 hourly and 60 salaried workers at the plant, reducing the employee count by about 20%, according to regional media reports. A GM spokesperson reportedly said that GM opted to end the plant's production of semiconductors because at the current volumes it is unprofitable.
