‘Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Street’ urges US government to adapt regulation for self-driving cars
Coalition favors NHTSA on development of a national framework and has therefore urged NHTSA to discourage state and local policymakers from pursuing their own rules
The Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Street, whose member include automakers and technology firms working on autonomous driving technology, has called on the US government to change federal vehicle safety standards that prohibits operation of a car without the presence of a driver, reports Automotive News. The coalition wants the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to amend certain Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) that it claims limits testing and deployment of fully autonomous vehicles.
