BMW to consider its own Russian production facility – report
German automaker currently uses a contract manufacturer in Russia to assemble models from SKD kits
BMW is once again considering whether to open a production base in Russia. Hendrik von Kuenheim, a senior vice-president at BMW Group, is quoted to have said on 2 December that the company was to decide in the next few months about whether to invest in a BMW-owned production base in the country. Speaking at the opening of another Eurosib dealership in St Petersburg, von Kuenheim stated that BMW continues to believe that the Russian market can expect "significant growth" and that this growth presumes an increase in local capacity, reports Interfax. BMW would therefore consider at least doubling its capacity in Russia.
