Move is expected to reduce range anxiety associated with EVs

Apple has added electric vehicle (EV) charging station data of ChargePoint on Apple Maps, reports Electrek. This will enable Apple Mac and iOs-based device owners to quickly find an EV charging station if their EVs are low on battery. ChargePoint claims to operate the world’s largest EV charging network with more than 31,200 charging spots. The move is expected to help reduce range-anxiety among EV users.

With the integration, ChargPoint’s network of charging stations will be visible on Apple Maps with EV charging badges. The user can get additional information such as directions to the charging station, hours of operation and pricing by tapping one of the badges. A link on the Apple Maps would lead users to the ChargePoint app where they initiate charging and make payment for the charge using Apple Pay.

“Right from their iPhone, they [users] can start charging, pay and see other station details. Once they’re done charging, they can navigate to their next destination. The presence of charging station badges on maps reinforces that EVs are going mainstream, with chargers popping up everywhere to make driving electric easy,” Electrek quoted ChargePoint as saying.

Apple Maps has been gradually integrating new features since launching the latest iOs10 operating systems earlier this year. In July, Apple reached an agreement with Parkopedia to integrate the latter’s comprehensive parking space availability information in Apple Maps.
