New rules to include alarm system that sounds every 15 seconds or so when the driver has taken his or her hands off the wheel while driving on a highway

The Japanese authorities are planning to introduce a series of standards for self-driving vehicles. The new standards are due to be implemented in the second half of this year, probably in early autumn. The requirements will include an alarm system that sounds every 15 seconds or so when the driver has taken his or her hands off the wheel while driving on a highway, reports the Kyodo News, quoting the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
