Project team aims to develop components that help in automated eco-driving

Project team aims to develop components that help in automated eco-driving The US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded USD2.9 million in funding to a team led by Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) to develop connected and automated vehicle technologies that would help vehicles improve fuel economy by more than 20%, SwRI said in a press release on Monday (13 February). The three-year project, called Model Predictive Control for Energy-Efficient Maneuvering of Connected and Automated Vehicles, is part of the Next-Generation Energy Technologies for Connected and Autonomous On-Road Vehicles (NEXTCAR) program of the DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The project aims to develop optimal control algorithms that leverage vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies to optimize the vehicle’s route, speed, and power flows from the hybrid system to improve fuel economy.
