Japanese automaker plans to invest an additional GBP2 billion with UK suppliers

Nissan has asked the UK government to spend GBP100 million (USD123.7 million) to strengthen the auto components suppliers industry in the country, the Financial Times (FT) reported on 28 February. Terming the current condition of the supplier base in the United Kingdom as “critical”, Colin Lawther, the head of European manufacturing at Nissan told members of parliament (MP) on the International Trade Committee that if the government does not invest in the supply base it will be a “house of cards effect.”
