Insights
M&A

As it stands now, OnStar will still be owned by General Motors in Europe and the services will still be offered on Opal and Vauxhall vehicles. This creates OnStar as a pure service provider in Europe, a proposition that could be appealing to other OEMs in Europe.

PSA has been all over the news and making some large announcements even if they were doing so in a quiet manner. The biggest news of course was the announced acquisition of Opel/Vauxhall from General Motors. The Opel deal worth around $2B to General Motors had a lot of negotiations dealing with all of the intricate parts that make up an automotive brand like factories, jobs, technologies, and of course associated brands and services like OnStar. As it stands now OnStar will still be owned by General Motors in Europe and the services will still be offered on Opel and Vauxhall vehicles. This creates OnStar as a pure service provider in Europe, a proposition that could be appealing to other OEMs in Europe.
