UK consortium to test driverless cars in 2019
Trials supported by USD11 million funding from the UK government
The Driven Group, a consortium of the UK-based technology companies, plans to test a fleet of autonomous cars on UK roads by 2019, BBC reported on 24 April. The test cars will have SAE Level 4 autonomy and will be able to perform all driving functions and monitoring of road conditions independently. However, the test cars will have human drivers to take control of vehicle in case of an emergency. The test will be conducted in urban areas and on motorways, culminating in an end-to-end journey from London and Oxford.
