High import duty on CBU car will make Tesla car very expensive in India

Electric carmaker Tesla is seeking import duty relief from the Indian government until the company establishes a local manufacturing unit in the country, Autocar Professional reported citing a Twitter post by Elon Musk, CEO of the company. Replying to a query on Tesla’s plan to enter the Indian automotive market, Musk said, “In discussions with the government of India requesting temporary relief on import penalties/restrictions until a local factory is built.” Musk has not yet specified any timeline for its foray into the Indian market.
