SAIC is the first state-owned Chinese automaker to receive the permit

SAIC Motor has received approvals from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to test self-driving cars on the state’s public roads, according to California DMV’s website. The DMV has given permission to test self-driving cars to SAIC Innovation Center, a company established by the Chinese automaker established two year ago. The permit covers two cars and one driver, a DMV spokesman told CNBC in an email.
