China is the latest country to be in the increasing list of nations that publicly state their intention to phase out fossil fuel–powered vehicles from their roads. While the environmental perspective is the dominant driver of this move, necessitated by China’s commitment to lead climate change discussions arising from the Paris accord, the financial insinuations of this action cannot be disregarded.
