Continental develops ‘central input device’ for autonomous driving
Device facilitates communication between occupants and the vehicle
Continental has developed a central input device called ‘Smart Control’ for autonomous driving, the German supplier said in a press release on 11 October. The input device informs occupants in a highly autonomous vehicle if automated driving or manual driving is possible. The device can also be used for controlling driving maneuvers. In manual driving mode, the input device disappears into the center console so that the driver can only use the touchpad on top, to control various functions, such as infotainment.
