Broadcom offers to acquire rival chipmaker Qualcomm
Acquisition to catapult Broadcom the third-largest chipmaker, behind Intel and Samsung Electronics
US-based chipmaker Broadcom has offered to acquire its rival Qualcomm for USD70 per share in cash and stock, the company said in a press release yesterday (6 November). The offer would value Qualcomm at approximately USD103 billion. The offer represents a 28% premium over closing price of Qualcomm’s common share on 2 November, the last unaffected trading day prior to media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid.
