EC move to equip all vehicles with eCall is expected to improve emergency response time in the event of a crash, save lives on EU roads

Vehicle manufacturers in the European Union (EU) will have to equip their new types of cars and vans with an automatic emergency call system, also known as eCall as mandatory fitment with effect from 31 March. The eCall system will enable automatic dialing of 112, a standard emergency number across the EU, to alert emergency service providers of serious accidents. The move by the European Commission (EC) is expected to help reduce number of deaths and injuries involving serious accidents by providing emergency service as early as possible.
