New plant will have annual production capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year

Tesla has signed agreements with Shanghai Lingang Area Development Administration and Lingang Group to establish its first overseas plant in China, according to a press release by the Shanghai Government today (11 July). The plant, which will be set up at in the Pudong New Area in Shanghai, will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 cars. “Shanghai welcomes Tesla to put its entire industry chain of research and development, manufacturing and sales of electric car in the city,” said Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai. “The government will fully support the construction of Tesla’s factory, and create a better business environment and provide better services for all types of enterprises, including Tesla,” Yong said.
